Western-Country Music - Adore It Or Dislike It, You Probably Have An Outlook!

Everybody has their critiques. We start forming likes & dislikes from an extremely early age. Some of our critiques are formed based on our own experiences and others we form based on what we hear from the people around us. Children readily pick up what the grown-ups around them are saying. This is the reason most family members belong to the exact same political party & practice the exact same religion; it's what they grew up with. A great deal of what we value comes from what we were exposed to as kids. Now & then we find that we change our opinion on some-thing once we have experienced it for our-selves because the opinion was based on what we were taught rather than from individual experience.

In the family I grew up in my dad liked to have things quiet. He worked very hard at his job & running a farm so when he sat down for the evening he didn't like plenty of noise or activity going on around him. We could have the television on low or he would put on tapes of classical music. It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on & country western music, even country wedding songs, or rock & roll would come on he would tell us to turn it off. He didn't understand rock & roll & he thought country-western music was cheesey, even the love ballads and country wedding songs. I was exposed to rock & roll through my friends, radio and dances & like it. I did not listen to western-country music at all. I held my dad's opinion of it. Then I started a dating a young man in college that listened to country-western music all the time. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that the majority of of the songs told.

I really liked him so when we began dating I put up with the music and tuned it out. We then went to a large open-air music show that featured numerous of the hottest country western bands. From that time on I was hooked. I discovered that I also liked the stories the songs told & the music was fun to dance to. At the out-of-doors concert event I met numerous of my boyfriend's friends. They taught me how to line-dance to some of the songs. I slow-danced to some ballads and country wedding songs. After university I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. In time I married my present husband & we're raising our family. I still listen to all versions of music, but every time I hear western-country music I think back to that concert & how I came to appreciate it. I try and let my kids experience many different things growing up & try not to influence their opinions.
